Fortunes

The wheel of fortune is ever turning, they say: cycling through the positive and negative reactions of the Universe as we play along, watching the changes that take place before us. At times we masquerade as one who can effect those changes as they affect us.

We deceive ourselves with our philosophies, religions and truths. We blind ourselves with our own lies and wishful thinking. We hide our darkness, pain, hate and demons – only showing them when the wheel has turned against us. The wheel will always turn, yet our place can be fixed outside of this wheel. We can live in the half truths we were taught; in the lies, in the dreams and the visions of our imaginations. We can live outside the wheel, if we choose.

Outside of this wheel are our darkest secrets, our brightest hopes and the crushed reality of the future. Reality is relative to the sadness we left behind, the despair we keep within and the lost hopes of dreams we never had.

My place is outside of this wheel. Far, far away from all that I just now have forgotten. Stripped away is my flesh, my thoughts and the future we no longer have. And here is where I want you…

Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, slander (for transitory statements), and libel (for written, broadcast, or otherwise published words)—is the communication of a statement that makes a claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government, or nation a negative image.

In common law jurisdictions, slander refers to a malicious, false and defamatory spoken statement or report, while libel refers to any other form of communication such as written words or images. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism. Related to defamation is public disclosure of private facts, which arises where one person reveals information that is not of public concern, and the release of which would offend a reasonable person. “Unlike [with] libel, truth is not a defense for invasion of privacy.”

False light laws are “intended primarily to protect the plaintiff’s mental or emotional well-being.” If a publication of information is false, then a tort of defamation might have occurred. If that communication is not technically false but is still misleading, then a tort of false light might have occurred.

In most civil law jurisdictions, defamation is dealt with as a crime rather than a tort.

A person who destroys another’s reputation may be referred to as a famacide, defamer, or slanderer. The Latin phrase famosus libellus means a libelous writing.

In physics, spacetime is any mathematical model that combines space and time into a single construct called the spacetime continuum.

Spacetime is usually interpreted with space being three-dimensional and time playing the role of a fourth dimension that is of a different sort than the spatial dimensions.

According to certain Euclidean space perceptions, the universe has three dimensions of space and one dimension of time. By combining space and time into a single manifold, physicists have significantly simplified a large number of physical theories, as well as described in a more uniform way the workings of the universe at both the supergalactic and subatomic levels.

Time flies and it isn’t always fun.

This month, two of my beautiful children found themselves a year older. The years pass, they grow older and wiser… I miss them, they are too far from me. My life is an endless struggle to be with my children, to love them and share with them every moment that I can squeeze out of me: for them. I am met with roadblocks and barriers, but persist… to the end of time, I persist. My heart belongs to them, eternally – my heart will always be with them, wherever they are at any given moment.

When they were five…

deep time dreaming

My dreams are saturated with the memories of events that have yet to pass in an endless time-line that counts backwards the lives I have lived. My thoughts come full circle to a time when we remembered our dreams. Yes, we: you and me: you, specifically: my reader. You are the thoughtful wanderer who passes through as the silent observer making your way ethereally past me. Do you remember my dreams?

I once sat in a lonely cottage before a welcoming fire. My head hung low as I stared at the scuffed wooden floor, worn by passing strangers over many years. A sadness consumed me, while guests, travelers and friends spoke softly around me.

A woman approached me softly and reached into her long dark coat. I looked up at her and she took three small candles wrapped in long forgotten beliefs from her pocket. She placed in my hand the charred remains of an ancient scroll. Dropping the spent candles to the floor, she sat down so very close to me.

“What do you expect me to do now? Where will I go, now that I know the truth in all things?” she whispered to me.

I stared at her and quietly said, “You will move on, as we all have. You will see the new truth as it comes to pass.” I paused and reflected on my words and said, “Just promise me you won’t forget this, you won’t forget us.”

She wrapped herself around my arm and leaned in close to my face, “How can I?” she said and then so very very slowly kissed me tenderly on my cheek.

She stood to walk away, but stopped suddenly and turned to me and said,

“But what do you expect me to do now?”

I looked down in my hand, a glimpse of silver catching the light from the object I held. I looked up to her and said, “Live forever…”

From the cool and unforgiving darkness can be heard the tapping of immortal things gently pressing at my window. A false reality, painted ever so thickly on the world, dripping with deceit and acidulous contempt confuses the masses. The exigencies of these relentless creatures unhinge me as I patiently await the inevitable.

The inquisition continues… a catharsis of calumniation cleansing away misrepresentation. I fall silent. I remain silent. Waiting for the truth to wash away the malodorous paints to reveal the forgotten masterpiece. Beneath it all, lies an epic adventure into the unknown.

But the facts still remain: “I hear no words whispered in my ear. I see no visions of the future. I carry no keys, maps or objects of significant importance. Light does not shine from my soul. Clocks tick regularly when I am near them. Oceans and beasts do not tremble in my presence. My words do not charm snakes, change lives or divine the future. I do not know the location of the lost city or where to find your hidden treasures. I am mortal and impermanent.”

However, I do know what I want. I do know who you are …and I do know why you are here.

I want to believe that there is goodness in the world. I want to believe that compassion, love, forgiveness, nurturing and peace rule above all else. I want to believe that humans are innately kind, gentle and wish to share love with each other. I want to believe that there is happiness to be had by everyone. I want to believe that hate, greed, jealousy, rancor and all things horrible are fiction or at least a thing of the distant past. I want to believe in friendship. I want to believe in so many things.

Surely you can understand my skepticism.
I want to believe… but I simply cannot. Not in fantasy, fiction or delusion.

Thirteen ravens once stood outside my door. They were not there as signs from the gods. They did not bring me secret messages from beyond the grave. They were not there to remind me of the ways of the world, or to foretell the death of a loved one. They were simply scavenging the remains of a jackrabbit who found misfortune not far from my home. There actually isn’t much mystery in the world. ‘There isn’t much you can’t come to expect.’

If you just open your eyes and see.

I am a cognizant dreamer, wanting to vivify the world with prescient visions and sagacious words. These thoughts and ideas that transcend time and space are merely my intimation of what could possibly come to be. I see clearly a future unfolding of unprecedented worth.

As technology advances bringing us all closer together, I see a new ‘oneness’ between all people. This interconnected fusion is taking our relationships with each other to levels never imagined. The sharing of knowledge, thoughts and deeds will take us to the greatest of heights.

If… we can change.

And change doesn’t mean some silly pointless wishful mystery or religion.
Change means knowledge, education, awareness and truth.
With this, we may possibly have a chance.
